Dr. Barak Or

Founder & CEO

Dr. Barak Or is an entrepreneur, researcher, and lecturer, who has published numerous patents and articles in professional journals. His primary fields are artificial intelligence and data fusion.

Throughout his career, he has held positions at Qualcomm, Autotalks, and Technion, undertaking projects, courses, lectures, and consulting engagements for various companies, including Israel Aerospace Industries and Elbit Systems.

Dr. Or has published over 20 papers in well-known journals, primarily in IEEE publications, and numerous posts on Medium

0n 2021, he founded Alma Technologies (named after his daughter Alma), an advanced navigation company that provides cost-effective GPS alternatives for car accurate positioning.

EDUCATION

2020-2022 |Ph.D. in machine learning-based inertial navigation from the School of Marine Sciences, University of Haifa, Israel. Published 6 publications in top peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

2016-2018 |M.Sc. in aerospace engineering from Technion-The Israel Institute of Technology, Israel. Thesis: integrated control and estimation in linear quadratic differential games. Published 3 publications in top peer-reviewed journals and conferences.


2012-2016 |B.Sc. in aerospace engineering from Technion-The Israel Institute of Technology, Israel.


2014-2016 |B.A. in economics and management (Cum Laude) from the faculty of industrial engineering, Technion-The Israel Institute of Technology, Israel.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Recipient of an R&D grant ($550,000) from the Israel Innovation Authority for the development of a navigation system in a GPS-denied environment, as part of leading ALMA (2023)

  • Recipient of a grant ($80,000) from the Ministry of Defense (MAFAT) for ALMA (2023)

  • Recipient of a grant ($85,000) from the Ministry of Economy and Industry for pushing ALMA in the European market (2022) 

  • Nominated by the Technion for “graduate achievements” in the field of High-tech for 2021

  • Recipient of a grant from the Israel Innovation Authority for “accurate learning-based mapping technologies”. The grant ($30,000) covers research in the field of accurate navigation systems by state-of-the-art deep learning. The grant led to the establishment of ALMA (2020)

  • Recipient of the Gemunder prize for “Space Defense Related Technologies”. The prize ($25,000) was given for a proposal for future research “satellite interception by game theory approach” (2018)

  • Won second place in the Technion competition for security developments. The prize was given for “developing an innovative and creative idea in the field of security and dealing with terror" (2015)

  • Graduated with a double degree in a period of 4 years (8 semesters): Aerospace Engineering and Economics & Management, Cum Laude (2016)
